Best Songs About the Rich/Lush Life

Attention!!!

So on my recent trip to Macau, I witnessed firsthand how the rich and powerful in that part of Asia live their lives. Surrounded by the casinos and the glamorous hotels anyone gets carried away with the helipads, private jets, limousines, heated pools, branded showrooms and of course the service staff that is there to attend at your beck and call. The fancy lifestyles of the celebrities and the superficial lives of the elite who thrive on these little first world intricacies have been the subject of particular songs.

The following hits are all about the lush life. Crowning the list is Psy’s Gangnam Style which is one of the biggest hits of the decade and the first video to hit 1 billion views on YouTube (recently it passed 2 billion views). At second place is none other than hip-hop duchess Fergie with her worldwide hit Glamorous followed by Iggy Azalea’s Fancy. No specific genre stands out as it is a mishmash of genres ranging from Hip-Hop, Rap and Pop to Rock, K-Pop and even a song from a James Bond Soundtrack. So here are the top 15 songs about the rich/lush life:
  1. Psy – Gangnam style
  2. Fergie ft. Ludacris – Glamorous
  3. Iggy Azalea ft. Charlie XCX – Fancy

Utlimate Hits of the 2000s

Attention!!!

Keeping up with the Ultimate Series this time I focus on the the decade 2000-2009. In this decade you can see a mix of Hip-Hop, R&B, Rap and Alternative Rock and Dancepop gaining ground in the music industry. Pop music leaves the main arena as Dancepop gains momentum with its sub-genres Europop, Electropop and Synthpop. The peak of Electropop will only however come after 2010. The focus is on the dance scene as mainstream music is more towards oriented with party music than good music. Pitch perfection is obtained by auto-tuning and artistes such as Lady Gaga and Flo Rida lay their foundations for a successful future. We see the slow decimation of the girl and boy bands such as Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and N*Sync. Rock music reenters the mainstream with Hard Rock and Celtic Metal. Eurodance is virtually non-existant during the decade, but K-Pop and J-Pop become extremely popular. Reality shows such as American Idol and X Factor which choose winners among amateurs lead to extremely talented artistes entering the music scene such as Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Carrie Underwood.

This list is a compilation of the greatest hits released between 2000-2009 by different artistes with the exceptions of certain artistes such as Rihanna, Flo Rida and Akon receiving several entries due to  collaborations. I have deliberately excluded other double entries for the sole reason because if that is done then artistes/groups such as Eminem, Lady Gaga, Flo Rida, Rihanna and Shakira would receive many entries and the same will go for bands such as the Black Eyed Peas, Nickelback and Linkin' Park which would lead to other major artistes and bands who were popular at the time or a particular famous song at the time to be excluded. Therefore, painstakingly I have had to research and find out the best song released by these artistes and bands who were popular at the time.

Thus, these are the Ultimate Hits of the 2000s based on chart performance worldwide as well as accolades received.

Best of Modern Rock

Attention!!!

Rock could be soft, alternative or hard as well as pop, punk and metal. After the golden era of rock music, which witnessed the likes of Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Survivor and Black Sabbath the genre began to fade with the advent of pop into mainstream. With the demise of Disco in the late 80s we see Pop and Eurodance taking over in the 90s. There was however a resurfacing of rock music as well. Alternative Rock joined the mainstream with bands such as Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers and U2 gaining popularity. Therefore, I have listed the bands/artistes, which have contributed significantly for the revival and development of rock music in the recent past.
