Best Songs About the Rich/Lush Life

Attention!!!

So on my recent trip to Macau, I witnessed firsthand how the rich and powerful in that part of Asia live their lives. Surrounded by the casinos and the glamorous hotels anyone gets carried away with the helipads, private jets, limousines, heated pools, branded showrooms and of course the service staff that is there to attend at your beck and call. The fancy lifestyles of the celebrities and the superficial lives of the elite who thrive on these little first world intricacies have been the subject of particular songs.

The following hits are all about the lush life. Crowning the list is Psy’s Gangnam Style which is one of the biggest hits of the decade and the first video to hit 1 billion views on YouTube (recently it passed 2 billion views). At second place is none other than hip-hop duchess Fergie with her worldwide hit Glamorous followed by Iggy Azalea’s Fancy. No specific genre stands out as it is a mishmash of genres ranging from Hip-Hop, Rap and Pop to Rock, K-Pop and even a song from a James Bond Soundtrack. So here are the top 15 songs about the rich/lush life:
  1. Psy – Gangnam style
  2. Fergie ft. Ludacris – Glamorous
  3. Iggy Azalea ft. Charlie XCX – Fancy
  4. Gwen Stefani ft. Eve – Rich girl
  5. Rich Gang ft. Young Thug & Rich Homie Quan – Lifestyle
  6. Zara Larsson – Lush life
  7. Travie McCoy ft. Bruno – Billionaire
  8. Nickelback – Rockstar
  9. Far East Movement ft. The Cataracs & Dev – Like a G6
  10. Shania Twain – Ka-ching
  11. Chamillionaire ft. Krayzie Bone – Ridin’
  12. Flo Rida – Zillionaire
  13. Shirley Bassey – Diamonds are forever
  14. Sheila E. – The glamorous life
  15. Madonna – Material girl

Xposition - September 2014

Attention!!!

Well September was a relatively quiet month in terms of happenings in the music scene. Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX's Fancy was crowned Song of the Summer by Billboard after the song topped the weekly chart from start to finish. Fancy is the first song to achieve this feat since Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg's California Gurls topped the chart from start to finish in 2010.

The UK has released a list of the Top 40 Biggest Selling Singles So Far as of 30th September 2014. Leading the list is Pharrell Williams' Happy followed by Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne's Rather Be and John Legend's All of Me. Mr. Probz's Waves is at 4 with Pitbull ft. Kesha's Timber and Ella Henderson's Ghost at 5 and 6 respectively. There may be changes at the end of the year but for now these are the top guns to claim the biggest selling single of UK for 2014.

There were movements in the charts in the US since the VMAs at the end of August would see sales in certain songs. It was none other than Taylor Swift's Shake It Off which blasted through to the top on the first week of September moving Magic!'s Rude out of place. Her single which was performed at the VMAs is also her entry to the mainstream pop scene. The single stayed there for two weeks and was dethroned by Meghan Trainor's debut hit All About That Bass. With a catchy beat, controversial lyrics and a flamboyant video the song was struggling to peak in its first few weeks behind Rude. However, finally the song peaked in the third week and remained at the top spot in the final week of September. With Nicki Minaj's brilliant performance of Anaconda on the VMA stage, the single peaked at No.2 during the month and this was the only movement within the top 10.

In the UK Lily Wood and the Prick and Robin Schulz's Prayer in C was number one for the first two weeks of the month. Then Calvin Harris ft. John Newman's Blame was number one for one week before being dethroned by Sigma ft. Paloma Faith's Changing in the final week. Other singles which became popular during the month were:
  • Echosmith - Cool kids
  • Chris Brown ft. Usher & Rick Ross - New flame
  • Jeremih ft. YG - Don't tell 'em
  • Tove Lo - Habits (stay high)
  • Sam Smith - I'm not the only one
  • The Script - Superheroes
  • 5 Seconds of Summer - Amnesia
  • Professor Green ft. Tori Kelly - Lullaby

Best Female Rappers of All Time

Attention!!!

The rapping industry is a man's world. However, there are some female rappers who can even give Jay-Z and Eminem a run for their money. Rapping is all about the pace, rhythm and lyrics all the while maintaining pitch. With Iggy Azalea becoming an international sensation with her hit Fancy, I thought of compiling this list. Veterans such as Missy Elliot and Lauryn Hill and those members of Salt-N-Pepa have all established themselves with their worldwide hits. Nevertheless, there are those that have immense potential such as Amy Heidemann of Karmin and Dev. Missy Elliot claims the top spot because she has done much for the female rapping industry with her global hit Get Ur Freak On. So here are the best female rappers of all time.
  1. Missy Elliot
  2. Nicki Minaj
  3. Lauryn Hill
  4. Iggy Azalea
  5. Lil’ Kim
  6. Amy Heidemann

  9. Fergie

Pharrell Williams' Happy was overthrown by Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX's Fancy during the first week of June and continued at its peak uncontested for the entire month. Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea's Problem peaked at number 2 and was also consistent throughout the month. With these two hits Azalea has the distinction of being the first act since The Beatles to have hits at No.1 and 2 at the same time. Magic!'s Rude and Calvin Harris' Summer are both still rising in the charts which could mean they could prove to be the ones to dethrone Azalea from her throne.

In the UK SecondCity's I Wanna Feel was the first No.1 for the month which was then superseded by Ed Sheeran's Sing. Ella Henderson who finished 6th place at the The X Factor 9 in 2012 peaked with her hit Ghost which stayed at the top for two weeks. The last numero uno for the month of June was Oliver Heldens & Becky Hill's Gecko (Overdrive).
