Xposition - March 2014

Attention!!!

The much anticipated 86th Academy Awards was held on 2nd March at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The Best Original Score went to Steven Price for Gravity. The Best Original Song went to Let It Go from the Disney animated feature film Frozen, which also won the coveted Best Animated Feature Film. The song was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. The song has gained much recognition for its sharp undertone of female empowerment. The song beat Happy from Despicable Me 2, The Moon Song from Her and Ordinary Love from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. The song is performed by Idina Menzel who performed the song at the ceremony which ended with a standing ovation. The song's critical acclaim earned it commercial success which brought it to the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at No.5. A mainstream cover of the song was released by Demi Lovato and also a popular Japanese version by Hyolyn.

The Ultra Music Festival kicked off on the last weekend with headline appearances by Afrojack, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Zedd, Hardwell, Tiesto and Krewella. A notable performance was by Deadmau5's remix of Martin Garrix's Animals with the old children's song Old McDonald Had a Farm.  There was major controversy with security arrangements as a security guard was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage after being trampled by a crowd of people attempting to gate crash. The Mayor of Miami vehemently condemned the injury and the festival may move to a different location in 2015.

In the US Katy Perry's Dark Horse ran its final run at the top in the first week of March and the rest of the month was dominated by Pharrell Williams' Happy. In the UK too Happy returned to the No.1 spot for a week and was replaced by My Love by Route 94 ft. Jess Glynne. This is Jess Glynne's second number one as she also peaked in the UK for Rather Be with Clean Bandit. Tsunami (Jump) by DVBBS & Borgeous ft. The Worst Songs of All Time

Attention!!!

Well, this took ages to complete, but I guess it was worth the wait. Many songs that are released are not worth taking note of. There are so many songs that we haven't heard of by some of our favorite artists and bands, mostly because we only listened to the singles which they release. Therefore, even if there are bad songs among the unreleased songs, we would not know. However, this list concerns the songs that have been released. This list contains songs that are really bad and excruciatingly painful for the ears, but nevertheless gained popularity and even certain accolades. Heading the list is none other than everyone's "favorite" Justin Bieber (sorry to all the beliebers but he has four songs on the list). Some songs like Chinese Food, Facebook uh oh oh and Popozao have such extraordinarily bad titles, one wonders how they became famous. Well not everyone has awesome taste in music, I guess.

Revered artists and bands such as Cliff Richard, Barry Manilow and The Beatles are all featured in the list and even multiplatinum artists and bands such as the Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Usher, Beyonce and the Backstreet Boys. It just goes to show that it's not just Rebecca Black or Double Take that come up with horrible songs.  Also we must not forget the film and television actors and actresses that decide that they can sing all of a sudden. Kate Winslet, Eddie Murphy and Heidi Montag are featured on this list and not to mention personalities who are celebrities by profession such as Paris Hilton and Kevin Federline. Best Duets of All Time (Mixed)

Attention!!!

A duet is a song performed by two artists. Duets have been a part of the music scene since the beginning of time. The most important thing about a duet is the vocal harmonization as well as the synchronization. In the 50s, 60s and the 70s, duets were sung by most of the mainstream artists and this trend continued into the 80s and 90s as well. Duets as of now in the 21st century are most of the time done for the purposes of commercial success. Relatively unknown artists are chosen by the major artists to perform songs written by the latter or insignificant artists leech up with the popular mainstream ones to become popular or get some hits on YouTube.

What is interesting about this list, is that most of the all time best duets are from the 70s and the 80s and most of these songs are either Pop or R&B. Several artists have been featured on two or more duets on this list such as Linda Ronstadt, Peabo Bryson, Celine Dion, Eminem, Rihanna, Beyonce and James Ingram while Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra have three of their duets in the top 50.
