Attention!!!
From the all important Grammys to the not so significant MuchMusic Awards, the ceremonies tend to be full of drama. The ni**as from the hood and the hillbillies from the south as well as the freaks from all over come together at most award ceremonies, and so you have social backgrounds, cultures and all sorts of hokum clashing on the red carpet and on stage. Whilst the more elite award shows such as the Oscars and the Golden Globes for those of the silver screen and television tend to be less dramatic as the actors and actresses leave the theatrics at home, the artists and the bands sometimes provide more action than a soap opera at the music award ceremonies. The most amount of drama is at the MTV Video Music Awards which some say is most of the time staged, but some are real and these are the ones that I have listed. So here they are:
- Cyrus/Thicke Twerk – MTV Video Music Awards 2013
Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke performed their hits We Can’t
Stop and Blurred Lines while twerking.
- West/Swift Interruption – MTV Video Music Awards
2009
Kanye West stormed on stage and interrupted Taylor Swift’s win
for Best Female Video to announce that it should have been Beyonce who should
have won.
- Madonna/Spears Smooch – MTV Video Music Awards
2003
While performing a medley of Madonna’s songs Britney Spears
and Madonna made out on stage during the performance. Thereafter, Madonna went
onto kiss Christina Aguilera who was a part of the medley as well.
- Adele flips the Bird – Brit Awards 2012
Adele’s acceptance speech for Best Album was cut off by host
James Corden who introduced Blur after which she flipped the middle finger.
- Ross/Kim Jiggle – MTV Video Music Awards 1999
While accepting an award Diana Ross hugged Lil’ Kim and
thereafter jiggled her boob.
- Love/Madonna Hailstorm – MTV Video Music Awards
1995
Courtney Love began to hurl the contents of her purse at
Madonna who was being interviewed at the award show.
- Eminem/Triumph Puppet Mayhem – MTV Video Music
Awards 2002
Eminem lost his cool when the puppet Triumph, the Insult Comic
Dog mocked the rap star for his feud with DJ Moby which lead to Eminem shoving
the puppet aside and threatening to beat up Moby.
- Gaga Butchery – MTV Video Music Awards 2010
It was PETA’s worst nightmare when Lady Gaga turned up at the
show wearing a dress made entirely of meat.
- Dylan Soy Bombed – Grammy Awards 1998
A backup dancer ripped off his shirt to reveal the puzzling
phrase “Soy Bomb” and did a spastic dance for around 40 seconds before being
ousted by security during Bob Dylan’s performance of “Love Sick”
- Swift/Styles Drama – MTV Video Music Awards 2013
When Taylor Swift went up to accept her award for Best Female
Video she indirectly thanked Harry Styles for inspiring her to write “I Knew
You Were Trouble”. Thereafter, Swift was seen saying “Shut the fuck up” when
One Direction was accepting the award for Best Pop Video.
- ODB/Colvin Confusion – Grammy Awards 1998
Wu Tang Clan’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard crashed the acceptance speech
of Shawn Colvin for Song of the Year as he was bitter about Puff Daddy’s win
for Hip-Hop Album of the Year.
- The Cyrus Joint – MTV European Music Awards 2013
When accepting her award for Best Video Miley Cyrus smoked a
real joint full of marijuana, which she sparked on stage.
- Greene/Brown Mixup – BET Awards 2011
Tiffany Greene was the presenter for Viewers Choice Award and
whilst she announced Chris Brown at first, she went onto change it to Rihanna,
although Brown was the actual winner.
- Wood/Block Splash – Brit Awards 2000
Ronnie Wood of Rolling Stones threw a drink over a drunk DJ
Brandon Block who stormed the stage believing he had won the award for Best
Soundtrack.
- Jackson/Presley PDA – MTV Video Music Awards 1994
Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley had an awkward kiss on
stage.
- Ginger Spice Nip Slip – Brit Awards 1997
Geri Halliwell of the Spice Girls suffered a wardrobe
malfunction as the Spice Girls went up to collect an award.
- Novoselic Head Bash – MTV Video Music Awards 1992
Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic launched his bass guitar high
into the air during their performance and it subsequently landed on his head
knocking him to the floor.
- Rage/Bizkit Interruption – MTV Video Music Awards
2000
Rage Against The Machine bassist Tim Commerford climbed on
stage to disrupt the acceptance speech of Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst for Best
Rock Video.
- Miguel Free Fall – Billboard Music Awards 2013
During the energetic performance of “Adorn” by Miguel he
attempted to leap across the stage only to crash land on two young unfortunate
fans.
- Timberlake/Minogue Ass Grab – Brit Awards 2003
During the performance of a duet Justin Timberlake grabbed
Kylie Minogue’s butt.
